Kaiser offices set to open in Castle Rock
Kaiser Permanente is set to open its 22nd medical office in Colorado with its Castle Rock location to provide an alternative for its growing southern membership base. Kaiser on Aug. 1 opens the doors at the Castle Rock medical office on Trail Boss Drive, offering a full range of services in family medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, laboratory, pharmacy and radiology.
The Castle Rock office is one of five new medical facilities scheduled to open between 2010 and 2013 and comes to Castle Rock about two years in advance of the provider’s plans to open a specialty medical office campus on Park Meadows Drive.
“As more of our members and future members move to the area south of Denver, we want to make it easy to access our high quality care in our medical offices, close to home,” said Donna Lynne, president, Kaiser Permanente Colorado.
The growth in the Castle Rock area was a driving force in Kaiser’s decision to open an office in town, said Amy Whited, Kaiser spokeswoman. The Castle Rock facility will be another option for members in Colorado Springs, now served by the provider’s Pueblo facility, Whited said. While Castle Rock has grown from a population of about 20,000 in 2000 to almost 50,000 today, Kaiser’s membership has reached more than 530,000 members, she said.
The provider expects to see about 8,000 members in the Castle Rock facility in its first year, said Jose Del Toro, medical office administrator. When Kaiser opened its Parker facility in 2009, it drew about 6,000 members from other offices and grew about 2,000 members in its first year, he said.
Kaiser expects the same trend in Castle Rock.
“We’re growing so much in the south, we decided to have a … facility closer to home,” Whited said.
The Castle Rock offices are in a two-story building off of Founders Parkway, more than 22,700 square feet of space with a pharmacy, lab, nearly 20 exam rooms, an observation room for critical care patients and a negative pressure room to reduce the risk of spread of infection from patients with infectious conditions. A team of eight physicians includes two pediatricians, Margaret A. Sheehan and David R. Thomas, who previously had private practices in Castle Rock.
Thomas returns to Kaiser almost 10 years after he started his medical career with the medical provider. He helped Kaiser design its previous medical records system and he and his family have lived in the area since 1993
Thomas lauds Kaiser’s medical delivery system, which does not incentivize doctors to make referrals or order tests that aren’t necessary, and he has long wanted to find his way back to the provider he says puts patients first.
