Indoor Motocross Tracks In Ohio

A mid-season recap of MotoCross action

This week, I decided to do a mid-season recap of our area racers who have been venturing to other tracks throughout the area other than Mapleshade MX in Sugar Grove. Along with the recap, I also have a summary of the double weekend of bike-only racing at Mapleshade MX last weekend. I thought it would be a good time to look at some of our local riders who do not hit all the Mapleshade events, as they venture out of the area to race on different tracks against some high level competition. I hope you enjoy my deviation in format a little this week!

I will begin with old reliable- Mapleshade MX and their double bikes-only weekend last week. The weather was very hot both days, so riders not only battled the track and each other, but also fatigue and very difficult conditions to keep a bike running in. On Saturday, Forestville's Nick Ranft made his first appearance of the year at Mapleshade and grabbed a third overall in the Junior Mini Ages 9-13 Class along with a fourth in the Super Mini Ages 12-16 Class. Ranft's good friend Dennis Briggs from Forestville also made his first appearance at Mapleshade this year and brought home a 16th in the 250 C Class and second in the Bomber Class. There's more on both of these boys a little later in my mid-season recap. The only other youth news for Saturday was Versailles' Ethan Button with a nice third overall in the 50cc Ages 7-8 Class on a KTM. The adults from Saturday included Portland's Brad Stanton, who grabbed a fifth overall in the Beginner D Class, along with Versailles' Fred Kennedy Jr. who claimed a solid fourth overall in the Senior Plus 45 Class. Finishing up Saturday's adults is my old friend Steve Briggs of Forestville, who claimed a nice third in the Vet Plus 30 C to go with a fourth in the Senior Plus 40 Class.

Last Sunday at Mapleshade saw the same group of riders from Saturday, as Ranft took fourth overall in the Super Mini Ages 12-16 Class along with 16th in the 250 C Class. Dennis Briggs claimed 15th in the 250 C Class, along with a 15th in the Open C Class against the big bikes. For the adults, Stanton brought home another solid finish in the Beginner D Class with an eighth overall, while Kennedy Jr. finished in fifth overall in the Senior Plus 45 Class. Steve Briggs finished off his weekend with a fourth in the Vet Plus 30 C Class along with a second in the Bomber Class. Westfield's William Barber only raced on Sunday, but had a great day with a 12th in the big 250 B Class and a fourth in the Two-Stroke Class as we wrap up the results from Mapleshade's two-day Bike-Only race.
