Music Mountain To Invest $9M In Shreveport Facility
SHREVEPORT, La -- Music Mountain Water Co. announced at a press conference Monday that it will invest $9.3 million in an injection molding facility in Shreveport. The project will allow Music Mountain to create one-gallon water molds here, rather than outsource the process, the company said. It will create over 25 manufacturing jobs that will come from Texas. In addition, 80 indirect jobs will be created. Governor Bobby Jindal spoke at the press conference. He said that not only will the addition of Music Mountain bring more jobs, but also more money to the state. "This is a company that has been in business for decades, they literally sell their water products in multiple states, so they're bringing dollars back into our community and back into our economy," said Jindal. Renovations are under way at the Stoner Avenue facility, which used to be the old Coca-Cola plant. They are expected to be completed by the end of this year. Co injection molding
Co injection molding is a relatively new two-material process, and the principle is the quite simple. An exactly measured shot of the first injected into a cold mold so that the mold is not filled. A second shot, from the second injection unit, then enters inside the first material and almost fills the cavity. Finally, the first material is again injected to fill the cavity and to seal the gate. Most of the problems in this technology of co injection molding center around supplying the material from the injection units, gating, and valving. Of course, hot runner is very important and adds to the complications.
Co injection molding is being used for two distinct applications:
1. Large housings and furniture panels: the inside material contains a foaming agent; the resulting product has a typical injection-molded skin and a foamed core. In a way, the parts resemble structural foam (low-pressure) moldings and have their weight advantages; however, the appearance (finish) is much better and is similar to an injection molded finish. The biggest advantage is, therefore, that these parts don’t need painting. Co injection molding
2. Co injection molding sequence: a) first shot (cold), b) second shot inside first material, and c) first material fills cavity.
3. Preforms. The other application is the co injection molding of products such as bottle performs which can be produced with the skin of a generally low cost material to provide the necessary strength while the inside, made from rather expensive material, and has the necessary barrier properties.
