All about the apes With the rebooted franchise Rise of the Planet of the Apes coming up, it seems a good time to look back at the original and the four sequels it spawned back in the 20th century. Exhumed Films presents a Planet of the Apes Marathon starting with the 1968 classic, followed by 1970's Beneath the Planet of the Apes , 1971's Escape From the Planet of the Apes , 1972's Conquest of the Planet of the Apes , and 1973's Battle for the Planet of the Apes . The films screen from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday at International House , 3701 Chestnut St. Tickets are $20. Call 215-387-5125.
Block party The third annual 2nd Street Festival features beer gardens, workshops, art, food, and a variety of vendors, but what seals the deal is the music, headlined by Merrill Garbus' lo-fi drum-loop one-woman band Tune-Yards (now with bassist and saxophone section), plus the über-funky sounds of Black Landlord , the psychedelic instrumental twang of Delicate Steve , the perfect pop of East Hundred , the quirky songs of luminous harpist Gillian Grassie, and hundreds more bands (OK, it's more like 16 more). It's all happening in Northern Liberties from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday on North Second Street between Germantown and Fairmount Avenues. Admission is free. Call 1-800-556-3655.

Mr. Cool The 1968 thriller Bullitt is more than just that great car chase (which is pretty great). It's also an ice-cold police procedural featuring the best performance by the coolest actor of his time, Steve McQueen. The film screens at 7 p.m. at the County Theater , 20 E. State St., Doylestown. Tickets are $9.50; $7 for seniors and students. Call 215-345-6789. The film also screens at the Ambler Theater , 108 E. Butler Ave., Ambler, at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are are $9.75; $7.25 for seniors and students. Call 215-646-2550.
Fractured history New Orleans-based Goat in the Road Productions performs its comedy Our Man , in which a couple of actors in a glass box repetitively performing a radio drama based on the life of Ronald Reagan find the story and themselves growing more warped with each retelling. The show goes on at 8 p.m. at Underground Arts at the Wolf Building, 1200 Callowhill St. Tickets are $10. Call 206-922-9623.

The only thing that could be considered the least bit corny was the goggled aviator hat on DJ Mike C, whose mash-ups veer from acid jazz to Led Zeppelin at Hughes's summer-long "Swanky Saturdays." During the week, the lounge favors small-ensemble

If the music occasionally recalls the antiseptic dead-end of acid jazz, few London divas chasing the Straight No Chaser crowd would have titled a song "Fuck Me Pumps", even if the song itself was a neo-soul tsk-tsk critique of

MOJA Radio/WEEKLY FEATURES (1-7 August 2011)
This Monday, August 1st, we’ll present another “Happy Birthday” edition of our special feature, MONDAY WITH THE MASTERS on MOJA Radio. This time the focus is on the great saxophonist, composer and MOJA Master from St. Louis, GREG OSBY. You’ll hear of his career beginnings growing up in St. Louis, his studies at Howard University and Berklee in Boston before arriving in New York City to collaborate with the likes of Steve Coleman, Geri Allen and Cassandra Wilson in the legendary M-Base Collective. After striking out on his own as a solo artist in 1987, Greg has established himself as a restless, inventive soul creating possibly the most effective marriage of hip hop and jazz ever and an endless series of high level collaborations and unique solo works as well. So listen for an hour of his intelligent thoughts and lots of his fantastic music. Listen for MONDAY WITH THE MASTERS twice every Monday, at Noon Eastern/9 AM Pacific, with a replay Monday night at 9 PM Eastern/6 PM Pacific and since Wednesday, August 3rd marks his 51stbirthday, it’s time to say happy birthday to the great GREG OSBY!
